National University of Singapore School of Computing CSSEMINAR TITLE: "What can we learn from software engineering and why?" Prof. Mehdi Jazayeri University of Lugano, Switzerland Time: April 23, 2010, 10:00 to 12:00 clock, Fri LOCATION: LT34, SOC1, Level 3 School of Computing, National University of Singapore Presentation by Dr Jarzabek, Stanislaw ( Stan@comp.nus.edu.sg) ABSTRACT: The software is critical to the functioning of modern society. The software is everywhere, it works, it is invisible,It looks like things are going well and his way. It is no coincidence. Over time, software engineers have techniques for creating software work, which has developed a reliable and efficient. The software is fully integrated into our machines and services, despite their ubiquity, the majority of people do not even notice its presence in the devices and services using these fabrics. Software engineering is to understand the problems and implementing solutions that work now and foreveraffordable, reliable and efficient. Software engineers have developed a concept and a way of thinking to address the problems and developed a near-perfect solutions. Unfortunately, this attitude is not popular with management, a less perfect that is delivered on time and at lower cost dear. The approach does not make them popular with computer scientists (eg, computational scientists) who simply want to bring only the software to run and the results, not to mention...
